Hiphophuis was founded in 2002 to offer hip-hop enthusiasts from Rotterdam and the surrounding area a home. Founders Bennie Semil, Lloyd Marengo and Aruna Vermeulen first developed the Hiphophuis in collaboration with the SKVR. Hiphophuis has been an independent foundation since 2008.

Hiphophuis Holland Foundation works with an unpaid board, namely Ernestine Comvalius (chairman), Kim Dankoor (secretary) and Janpier Brands (treasurer).

Hiphophuis strives to offer high quality at low rates, so that participation is accessible to everyone. This goal is made possible thanks to sponsors and subsidies.
