AFRO

The dance style from the Motherland. Across the continent every distinct culture has it's own Afro form, so to give you an idea, we'll break down the basics here for you:

Afro dance refers to a wide range of dance styles and rhythms that originate from African cultures and diaspora communities. These dances have a rich and complex history that spans thousands of years, and have been shaped by a variety of cultural, social, and political factors.

In West Africa, dance has been an integral part of social and cultural life for centuries. Each ethnic group has its own unique dance style, which reflects its history, traditions, and beliefs. For example, the Yoruba people of Nigeria are known for their energetic, acrobatic dances, while the Bambara people of Mali are known for their intricate footwork and graceful movements.

Due to the colonial history and exposure to 'western culture & dance styles, creativity gave way to a mixture of various Afro forms. Through the years, the various forms established more and more. Afro dance became increasingly popular around the world, thanks in part to the rise of independence movements within & for the mother continent and the global popularity of Afrobeat. A fusion of African rhythms, HipHop, and electronic music, has become a global phenomenon, popularized by artists such as Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.

Overall, the history of Afro dance is a testament to the resilience, creativity, and cultural richness of African and African diaspora communities.
